The Magic of the Space in Between

There’s magic in the space in between.

At least that’s what our spiritual and religious leaders tell us. And it’s what nature demonstrates.

I kinda understood that, but recently I’ve been playing more with the idea of the Ying and the Yang, great pain before unbridled joy, the darkness before the dawn, the masculine and the feminine.

Let me give you an example. I’ve been doing Yoga for the last 10 years. It wasn’t until recently that I came to a new understanding of one of the poses, Tree Pose. The way I’ve been taught is to stand tall with both arms outstretched overhead. Then imagine a string on the top of your head pulling it up to the sky. At the same time, place one foot on the inside of your opposite leg and imagine your foot on the ground is like the root of a tree.

Reaching high while rooting down deep is the name of the game.

What I realized was that by focusing on these two opposing thoughts at the same time, the real magic happens in the space in between. In this case, my core: my stomach, lower back, chest, and heart are where I feel the greatest stretch and release.
